Kate Rogan’s Love Books in Melville was recently voted the most popular book store in Gauteng.  I sat down with her to find out what she’s got right in the tough world of selling books and how she chooses titles that entice customers into the cosy, welcoming atmosphere of her store.

I was surprised to learn that 70 percent of the books are international titles and that 30 percent are local. Kate also chatted about some of her favourite books. Such fun !

Elvis Presley’s granddaughter, Riley Keough, has written the memoir of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley’s stormy life. Two years ago, Lisa Marie asked Riley to help her finish the memoir she’d spent years planning.

Riley agreed but a month later her mother was dead. Determined to fulfil her mother’s dying wishes, she listened to her tapes and ‘ From Here to the Great Unknown’ (Macmillan) is the result. Fascinating and tragic.

‘Cook-Off at Gogo’s Spaza’ ( Human & Rousseau) is a hilarious and enjoyably illustrated children’s book by Salamina Mosese and Vian Oelofsen. Perfectly sized for a Christmas stocking
