Reading Matters 14 January 2025

In my first Reading Matters show for 2025 I have selected my top 10 books for 2024.  Not an easy task as local books, which I focus on in my shows, are pouring out and so many are brilliant.

In no order of preference: these are the ones I have chosen:  ‘ Prescription Ice Cream’ by Alistair Mcalpine (Macmillan): ‘ Leo’ by Deon Meyer (NB Publishers): ‘ The Creation of Half-Broken People’ by Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu (Picador): ‘ The Bitterness of Olives’ by Andrew Brown (Karavan Press): ‘ Place’ by Justin Fox (Umuzi):  ‘ The Women’ by Kristin Hannah (Macmillan): ‘ Love and Fury’ by Margie Orford (Jonathan Ball):  ‘ The Blue Hour’ by Paula Hawkins (Penguin).

My final two are : ‘Fire’ by John Boyne (Penguin Random House): and ‘ Killers of the Flower Moon’ by David Grann (Schuster & Schuster).  I will discuss the latter two in my next show.
