Anton Coy (“The Bone Collector”) was born in the UK and spent many of his formative years under the bed covers at night with his transistor radio, listening to the sounds of a new phenomenon called rock and roll via a very dodgy AM signal from Radio Luxembourg. (For a long while the BBC seem to refuse to believe that this music existed). From those early days, Anton built up a detailed knowledge and appreciation of the evolution of this music, dating back from the late 1940’s and into the 1960’s after which the advent of The Beatles turned the whole musical world on its head.
“You Don’t Know What You’ve Got” is a programme aimed to give the listener a snapshot of early vintage pop music, which was mainly American and was largely influenced by the unlikely convergence of exclusively “white” Country and Western music and predominantly “black” Rhythm and Blues, the fusion of which ultimately became rock and roll. While tipping its hat to some of the better known artists of the era, the programme also concentrates on great recordings and performers that have been largely forgotten or ignored over the years for some reason, and which need to be dusted off and enjoyed again in all their original glory – B sides, cover versions, obscure LP tracks, songs that failed to chart, and much, much more. An entertaining and informative walk down Memory Lane is guaranteed.
