Sadly we mourn the passing of Alan Maker.

Our longest running presenter on Radio Today succumbed in ICU, with his Daughter in close attendance, the team at Radio Today extend our deepest condolences to Margie, Claire, Sue and Cathy.

Alan and Margie,

Niall Collie penned this message, thank you Niall.

Suddenly, so many memories of Alan come flooding back. Close on 25 years of memories; not just of Alan in the studio, presenting; but of Alan the man. The kind, compassionate, gentle giant. Always at his best at times of sadness, when you needed that extra special care and compassion. Alan always knew what to say, and how to say it.
Alan hated the phrase “he’s in a better place now”. As Alan always said: “no!, his best place is at home, surrounded by his family and loved ones. And that is exactly what his family would want now, and where Alan would want to be.
But I shall always remember the kind, caring and compassionate Alan. The many hours spent together in the studio, sometimes Alan was clumsy, but always doing his best!
Alan, thank you for the music, in what in total must be over 1 000 programmes – well done! Few can compare.
Two songs sprang to mind when I received the sad news: Frank Sinatra’s My Way, and from Joseph, There’s One More Angel in Heaven.
Alan, you ran your race. The road became steep, and the going tough. May you rest in eternal peace, never to be forgotten by those who knew and loved you. Go well!

We will continue to replay Alans “A New Day” morning message, through to the last.

Niall will be giving a eulogy on Saturday on Alans “From my Window”

💔💔💔💔💔 The world just became darker… Desperately sad. The light, love and grace he brought to all of us – even those who didn’t know him personally but only through his broadcasts – will be truly missed.
